Our Services

Below is a list of our services at Pediatric Headache Center of Richmond. Be sure to read About Us and schedule an appointment today!

  • Routine Care Appointments:
Provides the opportunity to discuss treatment plan with your physician, and monitor responses to your care plan. Is your acute or abortive drug therapy meeting the expectation?

  • Nerve Blocks:
Dr. Alford offers the following options but is not limited to – Sphenopalatine Ganglion Blocks, Trigeminal Nerve Blocks, Greater & Lesser Occipital Nerve Blocks and Trigeminal Nerve Branch Blocks. A nerve block can provide relief from days to weeks, or even months at a time. All of these block options numb an input to the trigeminal nerve system which is the sensory system for your head, face and neck. This allows the nerve to rest, and in many cases reset the communication with the brain relieving your headache.

  • Migraine Abortive Infusion:
(Migraine Cocktail Infusion): This is an infusion of different migraine medications (cocktail) via IV access. With this method of treating an existing migraine, the medications work together to alleviate a long standing migraine. This is often what is given to you in the Emergency Room. Here at PHCR, we offer the same infusion in the comfort of our infusion space, Nourish. This is an excellent cost saving measure for our patients and allows for Dr. Alford to assess the situation and customize the cocktail to the patient’s specific needs.

  • CEFALY Treatments:
CEFALY is an FDA-cleared, drug-free, migraine treatment. This simple-to-use medical device works to treat acute migraine attacks quickly. The unit is available as an in-office treatment plan.

  • NERIVIO Treatment:
FDA approved for ages 12 and up, is a treatment option offered, drug free. The unit utilizes Remote Electrical Neuromodulation (REN) to prevent and treat migraine. Worn on the arm, operated by an app, and used for acute and preventative treatment.

  • RELIVION:
New to the world of acute migraine treatment options, and has been making a difference for migraine sufferers. By stimulating two major nerve pathways associated with migraines, this drug free option, is utilized as an in-office treatment option.

  • Vyepti Infusions:
Introduced within the last few years, this treatment plan aids in controlling chronic migraines. Vyepti is a CGRP monoclonal antibody medication, infused to the patient via IV access, every three months. This is an in-office procedure, and takes only about fifteen minutes.

  • Onabotulinum Toxin Injections:
As a sometimes necessary option for care, our office will work with your insurance for onabotulinum toxin injections. This procedure consists of the medication being injected in the head, face, and neck in a protocol designed to help alleviate the pain associated with chronic migraine. This care plan requires injections are done every three months.
